Harmony was surprised when Dagney invited her to breakfast. Sure, they were friends, but in that co-worker, neighbor, sort of way. Dagney didn’t seem to let people get too close to her. Harmony remembered a few times they ran into one another in the laundry room. Dagney was an expert at small talk. Harmony sent a text back saying yes. She wasn’t sure if this had anything to do with the arm, or her brother, or just co-worker concern. Bruce said she was staying with Foster so it was probably just Dagney wanting to apologize for the situation.

As Harmony turned the corner she saw Bruce walking into the restaurant. Dagney and Foster were outside at a table. Damn the convenience of location in this neighborhood. She was on foot and Dagney had already spotted her. She was likely on the lookout and knew exactly which way she would be coming from.

Her arm shot up in the air and she waved her forward. Harmony put on her best ‘I did not fuck your brother less than ten hours ago’ expression and hoped it worked. She waved as she got closer to the table and everyone noticed the cast.

Foster Scott, dreamy eyes, as he was known around the work place said, “You sure got the worst of it yesterday. I’m terribly sorry about the brouhaha. It was a misunderstanding.”

She was so anxious for Bruce to come out of the restaurant she tapped her foot non-stop under the table. “I shouldn’t have tried to pull him off of you. That was stupid of me.”

“I thought it was brave,” Bruce said as he approached the table.

“Are they happy now?” Dagney asked him.

“Yes.” He took his seat at the table next to her.

She was suddenly judging the place for not having round tables. Large, round tables rather than modest sized square ones. She looked up at Foster who smiled at her with a roguish grin. He was directly across from her. She looked from him to Dagney and noticed that Dagney was only looking at her brother.

She tried to take in a calm breath as her head turned to look at Bruce. The moment she did, it explained why his sister’s boyfriend was smiling and why Dagney looked like she wanted to stab her brother with a fork. He was staring at her. Harmony felt the blush rush over her entire body as her eyes met his and she quickly looked away.

Dagney was a straight shooting gal. She said, “Soooo, this is awkward.”

Everyone was spared a response when the waiter approached to take the order. She was sure the guy must have thought he was in the wrong neighborhood. A few blocks down, it was normal to see celebrities everywhere living their lives without much interruption. This neighborhood was a great place to live, had similar amenities, it just housed a decently paid working class of customers not lead singers and pro-football players. “Why did you retire?”

Everyone looked up from the menu at the guy. He said, “I’m sorry.
